Title: Second Place

Summary: Carly knew they loved each other more than her but second place wasn't too shabby.

Carly Corinthos was not stupid. Sure, she was a little loud, a little reckless – okay, very loud and very reckless – but not stupid.

She knew he loved him more.

She knew that if push came to shove and it was a choice between her and Jason, she wouldn’t win. She would never win and Jason would watch her go without a word because he never asked anyone but Sonny to come back home. Goodbye.

She knew he loved him more.

She knew that if she asked Jason to choose (which she wouldn’t because she’s not stupid, but just for the sake of the argument) he wouldn’t choose her. She’d lose and Sonny would be standing behind him with that all-knowing smirk. Gotcha.

No, thanks.

She was Sonny’s wife (or ex-wife, depending on the time of month) and Jason’s best friend (or biggest annoyance, depending on the time of day). They’d love her, protect her, and keep her warm in the middle of their little family.

The green little monster inside her would rear its ugly head now and again but she’d beat it down with Michael’s hockey stick (Jason liked playing with him) and she’d lock it up in Morgan’s toy chest (he could get Sonny to buy him anything). Then, she’d toss it in the ocean (where Sonny and Jason dumped their trash).

This was one thing she would not screw up.

She knew what it was like to wake up alone and to wonder around in the rain with nowhere to go. Now, she had Sonny to wake up to and Jason to run to. The only price was coming in second place. That was okay, though, because she’d honestly never been first with anyone. Most of the time, she doesn’t even make the top ten.

Second was good.

Second was great.

She knew they loved each other more but that was okay because they loved her too.

Second most important person to Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan; Carly wasn’t stupid.
