Title: Finding out way is never easy
Author: KathyLuvsJason
Prologue: Earlier that day
“I got it – I got it…Okay…it’s in. Are you sure no one is around?”
“I’m sure – just finish already. We don’t have much time.”
“Okay…We’re good – let’s get out of here.”
The two men slipped out of the room and quietly walked down the hall of General Hospital, one pretending to be a patient and the other a doctor. “Now if you follow the course of treatment I outlined for you, you should feel much better soon.” “Thanks doc. I’ll try.” The two men parted ways at the elevator, trying their best not to make eye contact.
Chapter 1:
5th Floor Nurses Station, GeneralHospital
“I don’t know about you, but the medicine supply closet has been giving me the creeps all night.” Nurse Nadine says to Nurse Leyla. “I feel like I am being watched.”
Leyla smiled at her friend and co-worker. “Maybe it’s from being caught smooching in there last week by Dr. Ford. You and Nikolas should really stick to doing it in his office.”
“As if!” Nadine responds. “No, it’s different. I have really good instincts, my Aunt Rayleen says the best, and I feel like I am being watched – you don’t think Dr. Ford installed cameras in there – oh my goodness! I saw Dr. Scorpio & Dr. Drake coming out of there yesterday! Do you think he would do that? Oh boy I am so gonna get fired!”
“I’m sure it’s nothing,” Leyla dismisses the thought with a wave of her hand. “You’re just paranoid after being caught. Now, I’m going in there to check the meds again. These counterfeit drugs are making me so nervous. I don’t want to get in trouble like Epiphany and Elizabeth did for giving a patient placebos.”
Nadine watched her friend walk away, biting her lower lip and thinking about the possibility of a video camera. Maybe later she would sneak back in there and have a look around…

Jason quietly sat on the couch while Spinelli paced back and forth behind him. “You’re going to wear out my carpet – will you stop,” The Master asked of his Grasshopper. “You are driving me nuts. Go find Maxie or something to take your mind off of this.”
“The Jackel cannot help it, Stone Cold. I do not want to be the bearer of bad news to The Valkerie, but how can I not? I am the one who commanded cyberspace to reveal to me that the medicines given to Young Michael in his direst hours of need were not medicines at all! I cannot leave the burden on my master’s shoulders.”
“Spinelli, there is nothing we can do to change the outcome of Michael’s shooting now. No one at the hospital was at fault. They were just beginning to understand the extent of the counterfeit drug problem – there was no time to check every drug when Michael was bleeding to death. Besides, we don’t even know that a real medicine would have changed the outcome. Michael could still be, and probably would be, in a permanent coma. The brain damage was too severe.” Jason responded.
“But what About The Innocent One? Are you sure there is no permanent damage to him? If Leyla had not realized that his medicines were indeed not real – oh I shudder with the thought…” Spinelli quickly moved into his favorite yoga position. “I need to remain calm….”
“Jake is fine. There was no permanent damage – Patrick and Robin both said so. Jake had only received one counterfeit pill before Leyla noticed. We caught the infection in plenty of time.” Jason assured his friend.

Elizabeth’s house
“UGH!” Elizabeth slams down the phone. It’s just not fair, she thinks to herself. It. Is. Just. Not. Fair. She had finally found happiness with Jason. He asked her to marry him, again, and she finally said yes. Then Michael gets shot. The Ian Devlin gets shot for shooting Michael. The threat is over, but why can’t she feel safe? Why can’t Jason feel safe? Why must she be so scared all the time? Elizabeth sank into the couch, and dropped her head into her hands. It’s just not fair. She can’t be seen with Jason, she can’t call Jason, she can’t even think about him now. But that is all she wants to think about. Especially after the scare with Jake in the hospital. If Jason’s enemies are putting counterfeit drugs into General Hospital, his family could be targeted. Jake & Cameron attend daycare at the hospital. Elizabeth works at the hospital. All three of them are easy targets for trouble.
Chapter 2: The next day
10th Floor Nurses Station, GeneralHospital
“Epiphany, I couldn’t help it. Cameron hid my keys – how was I supposed to get here?” Elizabeth whined. “You were a single mom – you have to understand what I am going through.”
“Nurse Webber, I most certainly understand, but that does not mean the patients who need their medications understand. You have a responsibility to this hospital. You need to be here on time for your shift. Even if that means making an extra set of keys that YOU keep hidden, for times just like this. As a mother and a nurse you must be prepared for everything. Now get your butt down to the 5th Floor Medicine Supply Room and bring these up so the patients can finally get their medication!” Epiphany stomped away.
Elizabeth put her purse away under the desk, grabbed the meds list, and walked over to the elevators. The door opened and she walks in, not bothering to look up. She automatically pushed “5” and kept on reading the list. It suddenly occurred to her that she didn’t bother to check if the elevator was going up or down. It also occurred to her that she was not alone in the elevator.
“Hello Nurse Webber,” Dr. Hunter said. “You seem very interested in what you are reading.”
“Oh, hello doctor, just reviewing the meds I need to prepare for the 10th floor patients.”
“Any problems?” Dr. Hunter wonders. “I know we’re been checking and rechecking the meds room and I hope the counterfeit drugs are finally out of the hospital.”
“Ummm…well, my shift just started so I don’t know. I’ll find out when they were last checked when I get there. Do you have any patients on the 10th floor?” Elizabeth asks.
“Oh no, but I just wanted to know for my other patients. I’m on my way there myself, so I’ll walk down with you to check. Do you mind if I join you?” Dr. Hunter asks with a smile.
“Uh, okay.” Elizabeth replies as the elevator doors open and they approach the supply room. “I just need to get the key from the nurses station.”
“Oh no bother – I have one.” A strange look quickly flashed across Dr. Hunter’s face, but then disappeared just as quick as it came. “I just borrowed it from Nurse Johnson.”
As Dr. Hunter unlocks the door he looked around the room. “Everything seems to be where is should, do you see anything out of place?”
“No, doctor, everything looks the same to me? Do you see something wrong?” Elizabeth asks.
“No – just wondering.”

Chapter 3: Later that night
Emergency Room, GeneralHospital
A patient enters the ER and walks straight up to the triage desk “I need to see my doctor. He said to come back if the pain did not go away so he could change the dosage on my medication. The pain is getting worse.” “Who is your doctor, I’ll check if he’s on call.” The nurse responded. “Dr. Hunter,” he responds.
“He’s here – let me page him for you.” The patient has a seat and waits. And waits. And waits. He was just about to get up when Dr. Hunter walks into the ER. “Doctor I have been waiting a long time.”
“Let’s go upstairs – there is an exam room available on the 5th Floor. The elevator is this way…” Dr. Hunter points and they enter the elevator. “What are you doing here? We’re not supposed to be seen together. It will jeopardize the whole operation.”
The patient – DEA undercover agent Cody Paul – is not happy. “The camera is not working. I get audio but no video. So far all I have been able to hear is two hospital employees getting it on. Lucky for them the video was NOT working, or I don’t think I could look at either of them with a straight face again. There was also an interesting conversation between a nurse and something called a “wrist ducky? I have heard many different sounds, but I assume our culprit is NOT going to announce while they are in there. I really need to get that video operational or we’ve got nothing.”
“You have not learned anything yet?” DEA undercover agent Dr. Matt Hunter asks. “If anyone switched medications last night, they were quiet about it,” Cody responds.
The two men stop in front of the 5th Floor Medicine Supply Room and look around. No one appeared to be paying any attention to them, so Dr. Hunter unlocks the door and they slip inside. Quietly closing the door behind him, Dr. Hunter flicks on the light. Sitting on the floor is Jolene Crowell, who supposedly is lying in a coma. She’s got boxes and boxes of pills all around her. Jolene, former nurse at GH, is responsible for killing many patients the year before in retaliation for the death of her parents. Apparently now she is responsible for killing a few more.
“Aww…damn,” Jolene says.

Penthouse, HarbourviewTowers, 10 minutes later
“Are you sure?” Jason says into the cell phone. “You are absolutely positive about this? It was Jolene Crowell the whole time? I have been searching for mob bosses pushing drugs through my territory for nothing? That woman is still trying to get back at General Hospital for her parent’s deaths by killing more innocent people?” Jason hangs up and shakes his head. Unbelievable, he thought. I can’t believe it. He had given up his son, the love of his life, his FAMILY, because he nor Elizabeth could handle what had happened to Michael. They had finally found their way back to each other after a truce was agreed upon. The Five Families would never hurt a child, the Zaccarras would never shoot near a child again, and well, no one knew what the future would hold but they had decided to figure it out together. Jason promised safety, and Elizabeth had accepted the promise. They both realized that the boys had a greater chance of getting hurt just living their lives after Cameron almost burned Liz’s house down, with Jake stuck inside. Then the counterfeit drugs almost killed Jake after the house fire, and Elizabeth backed away once more. It was his job now to let her know that Jolene Crowell was responsible for their son almost losing his life, not him or his line of work. They could be a family just like he wanted.
10th Floor Nurses Station, GeneralHospital, 15 minutes later
Elizabeth walked towards the desk reviewing a patients’ chart. Always on the lookout for Nurse Johnson, she turns the corner and bumps right into Jason. “I gotta talk to you,” he says. We need somewhere private right away.” Elizabeth looked up at him and wanted so badly to go. “I can’t. I was late cause Cam hid my keys, Epiphany is already on my case. Besides, there really isn’t any point.”
“How long do you need – you know if it wasn’t important I would not risk us being seen together.” Jason pleaded.
“I have to move down to the 5th Floor in an hour. How about meeting me in the meds room around then. It’s private. No one will come in for meds till later.” Elizabeth gave Jason a look that was cautious. “I don’t know if this is a good idea. It’s so hard to be around you when I know we can’t be together.”
“Don’t worry. It’s important enough to risk it.” Jason quietly responds, and walks away.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loading Dock, GeneralHospital: 1 hour later
“We gotta keep my part in this quiet – otherwise we’ll blow my cover.” Dr. Hunter said. “I need to maintain the cover for a while longer, the director says. He wants me to stay here for an extended period of time, to follow up with Crowell’s suppliers. She said she gots the meds herself, but I do not believe it. There must be someone else involved. No one noticed a woman who is supposed to be in a coma coming and going?”
“No problem.” Cody replied. “I’m off to my next assignment. Been great working with you!” The two men shake hands and part ways.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5th Floor Meds Room: at the same time
Jason: “What time does your shift end?”
Elizabeth: “WHY?”
Jason: “I want you to come over tonite. With the boys.”
Elizabeth: “WHY?”
Jason: “You’ll find out when you get there.”
Elizabeth: “Why couldn’t you have said this earlier?”
Jason: “Cause I could not have done this earlier” Jason leans in and gives Elizabeth a long, passionate kiss. Then he leaves the room and walks away, leaving Elizabeth standing there, starting at him, totally confused, but totally in love at the same time.
