General HospitalI really enjoyed the non-wedding. It was romantic and that makes it very different from anything else they’ve been doing regularly. From Jason looking like he’d rather be dead to Ethan crashing the reception and Kate cropping up so unexpectedly, I really enjoyed it. I love Desilu, which is what I call Dante and Lulu. It’s a joke about his having too many D names, and of Maurice Benard having played Desi Arnaz and for some reason it just fits. I’m sure it won’t last! I look forward to his secret coming out, to someone taking Sonny down, to Kate getting her justice. You just know that Dominic/Dante (Desi) is right about Johnny. He may go to Anthony when he finds out about Olivia being the cop’s mom!
Oh my goodness, I got a small glimpse of Jackie Zeman as Bobbie Spencer! Yay! I thought Morgan was fantastic giving the toast, too. That was very well written and a small inside joke about this being a soap. I loved Coleman hitting on Kate, who was looking a lot like Faith Roscoe, wasn’t she? I’d love to see that quirky relationship played out slowly, building onscreen. Drunken Mac was a hoot, especially in Maxie’s pre-wedding nightmare. Mac is the best, most underused good guy in daytime and I miss him. I miss Mac and Robert and Anna. I miss good guys not being clueless dupes and crooked villains more twisted than the criminals they want me to idolize. Thank GOODNESS they never made Mac a kidnapper or criminal.
I could have done without Jason and Sam catching the bouquet and garter, though; how contrived. The best part about all of that was Kate and Olivia recalling a Bensonhurst wedding fiasco and Kate making contact with Alexis again. I miss the Kate/Alexis/Diane dynamic. I wish it would have been played up more. I wish it could still be playing but they don’t know how to keep Kate around. Nancy Lee Grahn must have seriously pissed off an exec to have been given so little decent material for so long. I loved Alexis all the way through her one night stand with Sonny. From that time to today, I only catch glimpses of the character that I loved, although I can’t fault Nancy Lee Grahn’s performances. “You define macho,” Alexis winks at Coleman. Oh, yeah.
“Macho Man” was hysterical, especially when they dragged Jason in on it. “ABC” was adorable; in fact, the whole karaoke was fun. To top it all off, I loved the guests singing “I want to know what love is” to Maxie and Spinelli. Those writers that I malign (so deservedly), have another Emmy consideration reel to submit for the Best Writing Emmy next year. It remains to be seen if they can write fiction for Port Charles as good as the backstage drama.
